Milano - July 8, 2009
source: AUD (see location below) > Church Audio CA-ST11 Cardioids > SP-SPSB-6 >
> Edirol R-09 (24-bit/48.0 kHz, LINE-IN, rec. level 25/30) > SDHC Panasonic RP-SDM04G
location: left side of the stage, 25 m from the stage, centered between left side stacks
glasses-mounted mic 1.65 m above the floor
transfer: SDHC Panasonic RP-SDM04G > HD (via USB) > Audacity 1.2.6 (cut/amplified[+4.0 dB]/faded-out) > CD Wave 1.97 (track splitting) > r8brain 1.9 (44.1 kHz resampling/very high quality 16-bit dithering) > TLH 2.4.1.160 (sector boundaries alignment/level 8 compression) > FLAC
generation: master (no optical media extraction)
Note from taper : Thanks to MLK for his suggestion (and for loaning his backup mics and battery box), I have located myself in a central position on the left side of the stage about 25 m from it with the mic mounted on glasses
I think it was a good choice because I always had a minimum 1-2 m distance from other fans and this had a positive effect on the quality of the recording
The quality of the sound is very good and I am very proud of this recording
What about the show?
It was my sixth U2 concert in 24 years (Milan 1985 the first one, and the first U2 show in Italy!) and the first in 12 years (Reggio Emilia 1997 the last one)
Extremely good performance
Personal highlights (a very difficult choice): Breathe, Magnificent, Desire, Unknown Caller, The Unforgettable Fire, Walk On
Technical notes:
- The total running time of the recording was 2:14:57; I have cut the last 40 useless seconds reducing the master to 2:14:15
- I have amplified the whole recording (+4.0 dB) and faded-out the last 10 secs
- A possible microgap could have been generated by the recorder since Edirol R-09 do not support track longer than 2 GB.
For this reason I have manually split the recording at the beginning of IGCIIDGCT (I have used the very same point to split tracks 14 and 15).
So, if you burn to audio CD, I recommend also to use this point to split CD1 and CD2 (CD1: 1-14; CD2: 15-26) |
